Art Child 2000
Aotearoa is the first place the sun’s
light will reach in the new millennium.
Our painting is very special to us.
We want it to show how we feel about our country, Aotearoa, New Zealand.
The children are dancing through the
parts of our culture that are important to us. They dance around each other, the land, the sea,
the bush, the marae and our flag.
We have shown how we would like our flag
to look like in the new millennium with the Silver Fern and the four stars of the Southern Cross.
Tuatara, Kakapo, Kiwi , and our own
Whitakers Skink and seahorse from Pukerua Bay shores remind us to care for all endangered species.
The gold and silver handprints
surrounding the fresco have been made by children of all ages at Pukerua Bay School.
We love Aotearoa, our country, we want
to keep all the special things.
We hope that the treasures of the land
and sea will stay forever.
We hope the children will care and
protect all the creatures, especially the endangered ones, so the next generation can see them, too.
The new millennium is coming, so we need
to look towards our future with excitement for the celebrations that Aotearoa and the whole world will
enjoy.
